
LEONARDTOWN, Md. – On August 20th, the Commissioners of St. Mary’s County announced that they had appointed Vanetta N. Van Cleave as the new Chief Financial Officer of St. Mary’s County. The Chief Financial Officer is responsible for managing the county’s financial activities.
Ms. Van Cleave earned a Bachelor of Science in Finance from San Diego State University. She also earned a Master of Business Administration with a focus on accounting, which she received from the University of California, Davis.
Vanetta N. Van Cleave has an extensive history managing the finances of healthcare organizations. She has worked for the North Tahoe Public Utility District, Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation, the Alameda Health System, and the Ernst & Young Healthcare Sciences Advisory Services. Ms. Van Cleave is also a member of the Government Finance Officers Association.
Upon her appointment, Ms. Van Cleave said, “I am deeply honored to join this exceptional leadership team and to be entrusted with the role of Chief Financial Officer for St. Mary’s County.” She also stated, “I look forward to supporting the Commissioners and County Administrator in their service to the residents of St. Mary’s County and in implementing their vision for the future.”

Vanetta N. Van Cleave will become the acting Chief Financial Officer for St. Mary’s County starting on October 21st, 2024.
