LA PLATA, Md. — The Charles County Board of Appeals will hold a public hearing next month on a zoning variance request involving a nearly 80-acre property in Waldorf that is currently being used as a gravel storage lot.
Eric Lundy, representing Heritage Memorial Cemetery, LLC, has petitioned the board for approval to bring the site into compliance with county zoning regulations. The request seeks authorization to disturb portions of a designated Resource Protection Zone, a variance required under Articles II and XXV of the Charles County Zoning Ordinance.
Heritage Memorial Cemetery, LLC operates a perpetual care cemetery on Poplar Hill Road in Waldorf, offering traditional burial, mausoleum entombment and cremation options for families in Charles County and surrounding communities. The property spans a large rural tract and has been used for cemetery-related operations for decades, according to public records.
The property, located at 13472 Poplar Hill Road, is identified as Tax Map 16, Grid 4, Parcel 2 and encompasses approximately 79.84 acres. It is situated within the county’s Rural Conservation (RC) Zone.
The public hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2026, at 6:30 p.m., and will be conducted in person only at the Charles County Government Building Auditorium, located at 200 Baltimore St., La Plata. Virtual attendance will not be available.
