LA PLATA, Md. — A Waldorf man is facing multiple charges after deputies attempted to arrest him on active warrants and later discovered suspected cocaine and drug paraphernalia during the encounter.
Marcus Anthony Swann, 23, of Waldorf, was arrested on March 3, 2026, following an investigation by the Charles County Sheriff’s Office in the La Plata area.
According to charging documents, a deputy with the Charles County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the area of Crain Highway in La Plata for a report involving a subject with active warrants. Dispatch advised that Swann had multiple active warrants through Charles County courts.
While responding, the deputy reviewed Swann’s records and prior booking photographs before arriving in the area and attempting to locate him.
Authorities reported that the deputy observed Swann and attempted to make contact. Swann allegedly ignored commands and fled from deputies, running through the area before tripping and falling.
Investigators reported that even after falling, Swann continued to resist arrest and ignored repeated commands to place his hands behind his back before deputies were able to secure him.
During a search incident to arrest, deputies located multiple small baggies containing suspected controlled dangerous substances in Swann’s pocket. Based on the deputy’s training and experience, the substances were believed to be cocaine and crack cocaine.
Authorities also located copper mesh material commonly used as a filter in narcotics pipes. The suspected substances were later field tested and returned a positive result for cocaine.
Swann was transported to the Charles County Detention Center following his arrest.
He was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance not cannabis, two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest, failure to obey a lawful order, and littering under 100 pounds.
A trial is set for April 21, 2026 in Charles District Court.
