It was Senior night for the Leonardtown Raiders (2-6) as North Point (7-1) came to town, frustrated after their one point loss to their cross-Waldorf rival Westlake. The Eagles behind a defense that only allowed the Raiders 70 total offensive yards, dominated from start to finish winning 50-0. Dwayne Graham kicked off the scoring spree with a long TD pass from QB Connor Young who finished seven of eight for 133 yards passing. Connor Crowell was the offensive star for North Point, finishing with 161 total yards and three TD’s (2 rushing, 1 receiving). The lead was 36-0 at half and the Eagles added TD’s from DJ Briscoe (50 yard run) and a three yard run from Kevin Ramsuer in the second half. North Point has outscored their opponents 262-67 over this season while the Raiders have been outscored 272-82.

Westlake ran their record to 7-1 with a 33-6 win over Patuxent (4-4). The Patuxent defense played tough in the first half, actually leading the game 3-0 at halftime. Coach Dominic Zaccarelli fired up his troops at the break and they came out and took over the game after a 50 yard rushing TD by Tony Hale. Hale finished the game with 121 yards on 6 carries. Westlake had a passing TD from Chris Istvan to Steven Koudossou of 20 yards. Michael Spriggs (50 yards) Walter White (48 yards) and Ayo Ounniyi (17 yards) all added long rushing TD’s for Westlake.

With two weeks remaining in the regular season a number of SMAC teams are still in the running for playoff positions. Regional playoffs in Maryland begin on Friday November 12, 2010. The first four teams in each division make the playoffs. Playoff points are decided as follows: 8 points for beating a 4-A school, 7 points for beating a 3-A school and 6 points for beating a 2-A school. Bonus points are given for each win from any team your team defeated in the regular season, making the strength of schedule extremely important in the playoff race.

The 4-A East is decided with the battle being for seedings in a close battle for second through fourth. Arundel is in the first spot with an 8-0 record and 90 points. Old Mill (7-1, 75 points), Broadneck (7-1, 74) and North Point (7-1, 73) are all battling for position. North Point finishes with games at home vs Great Mills and Thomas Stone. Broadneck and Old Mill play each other on the final game of the season.

McDonough leads the 2-A South race with a 7-1 record and 78 points. Hammond (7-1, 68), Douglass (7-1, 62), Southern (6-2, 60) and Gwynn Park (6-2, 51.11) are all battling for the final three spots. Gwynn Park plays Potomac and Douglass plays Friendly in games that affect this race AND the race for 3-A South.

Westlake is a lock in the 3-A South with their 7-1 record and 76 points. Friendly (7-1, 61.33), Potomac (6-2, 56), Chopticon (5-3, 55) and Huntingtown (5-3, 46.22) are all fighting for the final three spots. The Chopticon Braves control their own playoff destiny, could be seeded as high as second and earn a home game to start the regional playoffs with wins at home against Patuxent and Leonardtown.
