Clare Whitbeck (D) today announced her support for commuter rail service for Southern Maryland.ย ย
โI have driven to Washington during the rush hour.ย Route 4, Route 5, Route 210 have all been nearly parking lots at rush hour for several years.ย But recently, they have become slow even when itโs not rush hour.ย I join Congressman Steny Hoyer, Senator Middleton, Senator Dyson, and Delegates John Bohanan, Sally Jameson, Murray Levy and Daniel Mayer in committing to work to get rail service for Southern Maryland.โย
Whitbeck said she will do her part as a member of the Southern Maryland Delegation in Annapolis to get the details of rail transportation ironed out, and sooner rather than later.ย โYears ago,โ Whitbeck said, โI commuted from the Laurel to Washington, D. C. by rail. It was a very pleasant trip.ย In 1968 when the riots occurred in Washington. I was working at the then Post Office Department. After being released early, along with allย government employees, ย I was one of a very small number of people who went home without spending 10 or more hours in truly gridlocked traffic.ย I blessed โmy trainโ on that day.ย I want Southern Maryland commuters to be able to choose that same pleasant, reliable experience.โ
Whitbeck is running against fellow democrat, incumbentย Johnny Wood to represent District 29 A.
