Woman charged with assault on a law enforcement officer

Maryland State Police Leonardtown Barrack Trooper C. Ruth  initiated a traffic stop on a silver van on Tuesday, October 28th at 1:35 a.m. for a minor traffic violation.

The driver, Lisa Marie Murphy, 51, of Chesapeake, VA, was placed under arrest for Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol and transported to the Maryland State Police, Leonardtown Barrack. 

At the barrack, Ms. Murphy became extremely combative and attempted to strike Tpr. Ruth with a closed fist.  Murphy then elbowed and kicked Tpr Ruth. 

She was restrained and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center, where suspected CDS was recovered from her belongings. 

Ms. Murphy was charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, Second Degree Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, CDS Possession – Not Marijuana, and CDS Possession – Paraphernalia.  She was held pending a bond review with the District Court Commissioner.
