ย At 3:45 p.m. on Feb. 5, a resident of Port Lane, Lusby (Drum Point), Calvert County, called the Prince Frederick Barrack to report that she had recovered what she believed to be a water-borne mine from the World War I era.

ย She advised that she located the object on Feb. 3, and pulled it up onto the beach and secured it to a stable object.ย  She further reported markings on the device which supported the possibility that the object was a WWI era mine manufactured by the U.S. Navy.

ย Trooper J. A. Chirichella responded to the scene and safe-guarded the area until members of the Fire Marshalโ€™s Office could respond.

ย Fire Marshal Office personnel were able to confirm that the device was โ€œinertโ€ and immediately took possession of it.

ย The device will be returned to the Department of the Navy.
