CHAPTICO, Md. — Construction is progressing on two major skatepark projects in St. Mary’s County, with officials targeting a spring 2026 opening for both facilities, according to planning documents released by the county’s Department of Recreation & Parks.

The projects include a brand-new skatepark at Chaptico Park and a significant expansion of the existing skatepark at Nicolet Park. County officials said the projects were shaped through multiple community meetings and design reviews, including collaboration with the Southern Maryland Skateboard Association, to ensure the parks reflect local needs and skating styles.

At Nicolet Park, renovations to the original skatepark are complete, and work is now focused on a new addition. Stormwater infrastructure has been finished, and crews have begun forming new concrete skating features, according to project updates. Design plans show a mix of bowls, rails, ledges, stairs, and flat-ground elements intended to expand capacity and skill-level options.

Construction at Chaptico Park is earlier in the process, with stormwater work currently underway. The project will create the county’s first skatepark at the site, followed by new parking areas and sidewalks once skatepark construction is complete. Renderings outline a layout featuring quarter pipes, hips, manual pads, ledges, and other modern skate elements.

County officials said the two parks are being built consecutively and remain on schedule. Once completed, both facilities are expected to open for public use in spring 2026, expanding recreational opportunities for skateboarders and other action-sports users across St. Mary’s County.

Additional updates will be provided as construction continues.
