SOUTHERN MARYLAND — Olympic gold medalist and 400-meter world record holder Quincy Wilson is staying home—he’s officially committed to the University of Maryland’s track and field program. At his signing, he said, “The best athletes in the DMV stay in the DMV.”

The 17-year-old Prince George’s County teen made the announcement Monday, Nov. 24, choosing the Terps over top programs like South Carolina, USC, UCLA, and Texas A&M.

Wilson, who competes for the Bullis School track and field program in Potomac, Md., made history in 2024 as the youngest male track and field Olympian in U.S. history, earning gold in the 4×400-meter relay pool during the Paris Olympics.

He’ll now join Head Coach Andrew Valmon, a two-time Olympic gold medalist himself, who has led Maryland’s track and field program for over 20 seasons.

Wilson’s decision marks the first time an Olympic athlete has ever committed to Maryland’s track and field program, according to Testudo Times.

Wilson’s journey to the national stage began in 2022, when he captured his fifth AAU Junior Olympic Games title. By 2023, he became one of the youngest American athletes to sign a name, image and likeness deal, partnering with New Balance. His 2025 season included world-ranked times and national title wins—solidifying him as one of the brightest young stars in U.S. sprinting.

Maryland fans, mark your calendars—Quincy Wilson is coming to College Park.
