CALVERT COUNTY, Md. — Halloween is fast approaching, and Calvert County residents and officials are using this time to celebrate all the fun and festivities of this popular holiday. October is often called “spooky season,” and its reach keeps growing as locals find ways to celebrate their favorite holiday.
Part of the excitement surrounding Halloween is that there are so many ways to celebrate. From hardcore horror movie fans to casual decorators to school-aged trunk-or-treaters, the Halloween season has something to offer.
Here’s a list of some of the Halloween activities around Calvert County in the next few weeks. This isn’t a complete list, so make sure to share your favorite events with your friends to get the most out of them.
Saturday, Oct. 18: Vintage by the Bay and Blue Heron Boutique Fall Pop-Up Market and Pet Adoption Event
Vintage by the Bay and Blue Heron Boutique at 645 Deale Road are hosting a fall pop-up market at 10 a.m. this Saturday. Over 25 local artists and vendors will be featured at the event, and shoppers will have the chance to get a jump start on “gear, gifts, and goodies” for the holidays. What’s even better is that the stores are partnering with the Humane Society of Calvert County, so you’ll get to meet animals available for adoption, too.
The event is pet-friendly and will feature a puppy kissing booth and trick-or-treating for kids. Old Line Eats food truck will be at the event all day.

Friday, Oct. 24: Halloween at Hallowing at Hallowing Point Park
Calvert Parks and Recreation is hosting its first-ever Halloween at Hallowing from 6–9 p.m. The event is in Hallowing Point Park at 4755 Hallowing Point Road, Prince Frederick. Attendees should enter the park at Jibsail Road.
At this event, families can enjoy trick-or-treating, games, contests, face painting, a hayride, food trucks and more. Pre-registration is not required, but costumes are encouraged!

Friday, Oct. 24: Halloween Karaoke at the American Legion
American Legion Stallings-Williams Post 206 at 3330 Chesapeake Beach Road is hosting a Halloween-themed karaoke night from 7:30–11 p.m. The event is open to the public and also features a costume contest. Organizers invite the community to join in for “good tunes, thrilling performances, and ghoulish fun.”

Saturday, Oct. 25: Halloween Binglow at Rod ‘n’ Reel Resort
For those looking for an adults-only Halloween event, you can join Rod ‘n’ Reel for glow-in-the-dark Halloween Bingo. The event will have prizes, costumes and quick-fire games for a spooktacular night of fun. This is an 18+ event and tickets are required. Tickets are $40 each, and there are only 100 available. Doors open at 9 p.m.
The event is at The Overlook at Rod ‘n’ Reel Resort at 4150 Mears Avenue, Chesapeake Beach.

Saturday, Oct. 25: Wheel House Beer Garden Scary Tales Halloween Bash
This 21+ event is another great opportunity for adults to celebrate their favorite holiday. Wheel House Beer Garden at 4109 7th Street in North Beach is hosting a “Scary Tales” party and invites locals to dress up as their favorite fairytale characters — with a spooky twist. The event is from 5–9 p.m., with live music starting at 6 p.m. Partygoers can also enjoy “spooky brews,” a fall cocktail menu and join in on the costume party.

Sunday, Oct. 26: North Beach Volunteer Fire Department Trunk or Treat
This event will take place from 12–2 p.m. at 8536 Bayside Road, Chesapeake Beach. The event will feature music, games, prizes and, of course, a trunk or treat.
Trunk or treats are popular alternatives (or additions) to trick-or-treating. For this event, kids will walk around a parking lot from car to car for candy rather than walk through a neighborhood. Trunk or treats are a fun way to experience trick-or-treating in a safer environment and give adults a chance to socialize. People often go all out decorating their cars or creating skits or rituals.

Thursday, Oct. 30: Halloween Pup Parade at Dunkirk District Park
Do you have a great costume for your pup? You can join the Dunkirk Pup Parade and show it off! This is a free event at the park at 10750 Southern Maryland Boulevard from 10:30–11 a.m. Participants will meet at the pavilions and parade around the park so everyone has the chance to see the dogs and their costumes. Prizes will be awarded after the parade. Pre-registration is encouraged.
Organizers ask that all participating dogs are dog- and people-friendly, ready to socialize and stay on a leash at all times.

Friday, Oct. 31: Creepy Creatures at the North Beach Nature Center
Head over to the North Beach Nature Center at 9404 Dayton Avenue from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. for the Creepy Creatures event, where you’ll learn about “local creatures with a bad reputation.” In addition to learning about the critters, you can play Halloween bingo and create a fun craft at this event.

Saturday, Nov. 1: Retro Halloween Party by Dusk + Willow at The Bakist
Dusk + Willow and The Bakist are teaming up for a night of “spooky glamour, live music, and retro vibes!” This is a ticketed event. Tickets are $33 and include two specialty event mocktail drink tokens. The Bakist will also have a limited food and drink menu available up until 9 p.m. Drink tokens are for the specialty drinks only.
The event will take place at The Bakist at 9124 Bay Avenue and will have performances by LoveFools Music and Metronix (DJ set). Costumes are highly encouraged.

As we mentioned, there are many more Halloween parties, celebrations and activities happening around Southern Maryland. Enjoy the season — and don’t forget to share the fun with friends.
