Annapolis Native Earns Surface Warfare Supply Corps Officer Qualification Aboard USS Boxer

MILLINGTON. Tn. – Lt. j.g. Kayla Harris, a native of Annapolis, Maryland, recently earned their Surface Warfare Supply Corps Officer qualification aboard the U.S. Navy warship, USS Boxer, operating out of San Diego, California. 

“This qualification gives me great pride in what I have accomplished over the last year while onboard Boxer,” said Harris. ” This pin represents competency, excellence and honor for the supply corps community.

Harris graduated from Broadneck High School in 2016 and from the United States Naval Academy in 2020. 

Harris joined the Navy three years ago. 

With 90% of global commerce traveling by sea and access to the internet relying on the security of undersea fiber optic cables, Navy officials continue to emphasize that the prosperity of the United States is directly linked to recruiting and retaining talented people from across the rich fabric of America.

Boxer is a Wasp-class amphibious assault ship and the sixth U.S. ship to bear the name of the original HMS Boxer, which was captured during the War of 1812.

According to Navy officials, amphibious assault ships transfer Marines, equipment and supplies and can support helicopters or other aircraft. Boxer’s crew is made up of approximately 1,200 crewmembers and can accommodate up to 1,800 Marines.

Harris serves a Navy that operates far forward, around the world and around the clock, promoting the nation’s prosperity and security.

“We will earn and reinforce the trust and confidence of the American people every day,” said Adm. Lisa Franchetti, chief of naval operations. “Together we will deliver the Navy the nation needs.”
