Calvert Schools Approves New Executive Director Salary Structure Recommended In February Efficiency Report

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — Calvert Schools’ Board of Education (BOE) approved the salary structure for two newly created positions, as per the efficiency report presented by Public Works in February.

According to a memo submitted by Dr. Susan Johnson, Jacquelyn Jacobs, and Christine Jewett, and presented by Superintendent Dr. Marcus Newsome at the April 9 meeting, this structure would “align executive leadership positions with the CASA and Meet and Confer salary schedules and establish a consistent ongoing structure for increases through FY29.”

In this structure, the chief financial officer (CFO) salary lane is set at 10% above the director/high school principal salary schedule, and the executive director’s salary lane is positioned 4.5% above the director/high school principal’s salary lane. Staff thought that the CFO salary lane served as the basis for establishing the salary schedule for all chief/assistant superintendent/deputy superintendent positions.

In this salary schedule, a director-level hire at Step 1 would start at $138,138, while on the opposite end of the schedule, a chief/assistant hire at Step 13 would start at $204,358. The proposal includes cost-of-living salary increases through FY29.

The BOE’s approved budget includes two new executive director positions, one for elementary and one for high school. This salary schedule would apply to anyone hired for those positions. So far, the school district is still in discussion about those roles and no one has been recommended or hired.
