LA PLATA, Md. — The Charles County Children’s Aid Society has extended the application deadline for its Christmas Toy Connection 2025, one of the largest holiday support programs in the region. Originally scheduled to close Nov. 4, the application period will now remain open until all available spaces are filled, and families are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.
The program, which opened Sept. 4, provides holiday gifts to approximately 2,000 children each year. It is operated in partnership with the Charles County Department of Social Services, which manages the application and verification process. Each December, the Children’s Aid Society hosts a week-long event where approved families can “shop” for gifts. In the months leading up to Christmas, the organization distributes collection boxes to local businesses, which serve as drop-off sites for toy donations. Community contributions help stock the event and ensure families have a meaningful holiday experience.
To qualify, families must live in Charles County, be receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits or Temporary Cash Assistance (TCA), and have children listed on their Department of Social Services case.
Families can apply online at charlescountydss.com/childrens-aid-society-christmas-toy-connection-online-submission. Questions can be directed to info@childrens-aid-society.org.

In addition to the Christmas Toy Connection, the Children’s Aid Society began accepting registrations for its Thanksgiving Basket Program. The basket program can assist up to 250 Charles County families with holiday meals. Families must have children under 18. To register, call 301-645-1561.
Volunteers are needed to assist with filling gift bags, heavy lifting, and helping on the Day of Distribution. Those interested in volunteering should contact warehouse@childrens-aid-society.org or call 301-645-1561.
Want to Donate? The organization also accepts donations of food, hygiene items, baby supplies, clothing, and seasonal items year-round. Current high-need items include canned goods, pasta, shampoo, toothpaste, diapers, and new toys. Donations can be scheduled by appointment, preferably on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
