ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Local Charles County farmer Chip Bowling has been appointed to the state Farm Service Agency (FSA), according to a Jan. 14 press release from the organization.
Five new local leaders were appointed to the FSA this January by the Trump administration. Members of the FSA are appointed by the Secretary of Agriculture, Brooke L. Rollins.
“In support of the Trump administration’s Farmers First commitment, members of the FSA state committee are responsible for the oversight of farm programs and county committee operations, resolving program delivery appeals from the agriculture community, maintaining cooperative relations with industry stakeholders and keeping producers informed about current FSA programs,” the release stated.
Bowling is a third-generation farmer who produces corn, soybeans, sorghum and wheat. He is a former tobacco farmer and livestock producer. Bowling’s grandparents started their farm in 1944, and Bowling took over in 1998. Bowling and his family have served in leadership roles in Charles County and in Maryland.
“These individuals, selected by Secretary Rollins in partnership with key stakeholders in each state, are held in high regard in the agriculture industry and are entrusted to ensure FSA programs are delivered in a manner consistent with federal farm policy and in the best interest of all agricultural producers in their state,” said FSA Administrator Bill Beam.
The Charles County Farm Bureau also posted a congratulatory message on its Facebook page.
