UPDATE โ A 25-year-old man was airlifted to a trauma center Saturday afternoon after a dirt bike crash at a Charlotte Hall motocross track left him with serious injuries including abdominal, rib and pelvic pain. The incident was classified as a “significant event” by emergency officials, indicating the severity of the injuries sustained.
Charles County emergency crews were initially dispatched around 2:08 p.m. to 11100 Kingston Place for reports of an inaccessible terrain rescue. According to dispatch, the man crashed his dirt bike on the track approximately 20 minutes before emergency services were called. The rider was reported to be conscious, alert and breathing but complained of severe abdominal pain following the crash.
Emergency responders initially dispatched multiple specialized units including all-terrain rescue vehicles to navigate the difficult terrain. During the response, authorities say the patient moved out of the wooded area onto the accessible portion of the track, allowing some specialized units to be cancelled.
However, once emergency medical personnel assessed the patient on scene, the severity of his injuries prompted a request for helicopter transport around 2:35 p.m. Maryland State Police Trooper 7 helicopter responded with a 16-minute estimated arrival time. The patient sustained abdominal pain, rib pain and pelvic pain from the motocross accident with no reported loss of consciousness.
Trooper 7 arrived on scene around 2:56 p.m. and departed at 3:07 p.m., transporting the patient as Priority 2 to Capital Region Medical Center (University of Maryland Capital Region Health). The helicopter arrived at the trauma facility at 3:32 p.m. Priority 2 classification indicates serious injuries requiring immediate medical attention but the patient’s vital signs were stable during transport.
A separate landing zone was established at the Kingston Place location to facilitate the helicopter evacuation. Emergency units remained on scene conducting cleanup operations and securing the landing zone through the afternoon.
The “significant event” classification by emergency officials reflects the serious nature of the injuries and the need for immediate trauma center care. No additional information about the patient’s current condition has been released by hospital authorities.
