LEXINGTON PARK, Md. – Capes, crowns and maybe even a few monsters will take to the trails later this fall as St. Mary’s County Recreation & Parks launches its first Costume Run Family 5K. The festive race is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 26, 2025 from 9 to 11 a.m. at Lexington Manor Passive Park.

This debut event is meant to be as much about family fun as fitness. Participants are encouraged to show up in their best Halloween attire, transforming the paved, stroller-friendly course into a moving parade. Whether running, walking, or rolling along with little ones, all ages and abilities are welcome.

Registration fees are $40 for St. Mary’s residents ages 12 and older ($45 for nonresidents), $25 for residents under 12 ($30 for nonresidents), and free for children 5 and under. All participants must register, and those who sign up by Oct. 1 will be guaranteed their shirt size. Refunds will only be issued if the event is canceled due to inclement weather.

Proceeds benefit the Recreation & Parks youth scholarship fund, which helps cover program costs for families across the county. For many, it’s a chance to give back while making a seasonal memory.

Those interested can register online or check out the Facebook event page for updates. Questions may be directed to Recreation & Parks at RPinfo@stmaryscountymd.gov or 301-475-4200, ext. 1800.
