Dr. Nimfa Teneza-Mora Appointed As Calvert County Health Officer

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — The Calvert County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) announced the appointment of Dr. Nimfa Teneza-Mora as the health officer for Calvert County, effective Nov. 13, 2024. Her appointment, made by Maryland Health Secretary Dr. Laura Herrera Scott at the recommendation of the BOCC, marks the beginning of a new chapter in the county’s public health leadership.

Dr. Teneza-Mora brings extensive experience as a senior military physician and public health leader, with more than 13 years dedicated to health care operations, clinical research, and public health. Her expertise in internal medicine and infectious diseases is complemented by her achievements in policy development, health program management, and clinical care.

A graduate of Eastern Virginia Medical School, Dr. Teneza-Mora completed Navy internships and fellowships before earning a master’s degree in public health from San Diego State University. Her distinguished career in Navy medical research earned her accolades and commendations for advancing infectious disease research and public health initiatives.

“Dr. Teneza-Mora’s insight and leadership in public health make her well-suited to address the county’s health priorities, and we are pleased to welcome her as Calvert County’s health officer,” BOCC President Earl F. “Buddy” Hance said. “Her background and dedication to public health align well with our mission, and we look forward to working together to strengthen our community’s health and wellness. We also extend our thanks to the Maryland Department of Health for its partnership throughout the selection process.”

As health officer, Dr. Teneza-Mora will work closely with the BOCC, which also serves as the county Board of Health, to address pressing public health challenges and broaden health services for county residents.
