DUNKIRK, Md. — A free art event celebrating Autism Awareness Month will take place on Saturday, April 26, from 2 to 6 p.m. at Fresco Studios, located at 10379 Southern Maryland Blvd. in Dunkirk.

“Expressions Unbound: An Autism Awareness Art Event” is designed to provide a welcoming, inclusive environment where individuals on the autism spectrum can explore creativity through guided, hands-on art sessions. The event is open to participants ages 5 and up, with parent or guardian supervision required.

Organized by the Arts Council of Calvert County in partnership with Fresco Studios, Film Village, the Reel Independent Film Extravaganza, and Paisley Arts, the event aims to highlight neurodiversity while encouraging artistic expression.

Timed, 45-minute sessions will be offered throughout the afternoon in a sensory-friendly setting. Each session will include three art tables, with space for up to 10 participants per session to ensure a comfortable experience.

“We are excited to provide a space where individuals can express themselves freely through art while raising awareness about autism and the importance of inclusion,” said Anthony Greene, co-organizer of the event and representative of Film Village.

Pre-registration is recommended, though limited walk-in availability will be offered. All art supplies will be provided, and participants are asked to arrive at least 10 minutes before their scheduled time slot. Registration is available online at calvertarts.org.

The event is part of a broader community initiative to promote creativity, accessibility, and support for individuals with diverse needs.
