James “Jim” Michael Rumaker, 64, of California, MD, passed away on March 8, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones. On April 23, 1961, Jim was born in Vineland, NJ, to the late Joseph and Norma Rumaker.
After graduating from Gateway Regional High School in 1979, Jim attended Pennsylvania State University on a full scholarship. Shortly after arriving on campus, he called his father and said, “I’m going to become a man, I’m joining the Marines.” True to his word, Jim left college and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps before the next semester had started.
Jim honorably served in the United States Marine Corps and received the Good Conduct Medal for his exemplary service during that time.
On June 9, 1984, Jim married the love of his life, Mary Ann. They were blessed with two children, Joe Rumaker (Nicole) of Mechanicsville, MD, and Kelly Laurin (Ed), who predeceased her father.
In 1987 Jim moved the family from Long Island, NY to California, MD, to begin work as a program manager for NAVAIR.
In his free time, he enjoyed golfing, following college wrestling (especially Penn State), and supporting New York sports teams (the Giants and Mets). He also enjoyed tending to his crab pots, often sharing his catch with family and friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and daughter. He is survived by his cherished wife, son, and siblings: Joe Rumaker (Patty) of Frisco, TX; Bill Rumaker of Phoenix, VA; Mark Rumaker (Pam) of York, SC; Marge Koziol (Stan) of Huntington, NY; and Fran Rumaker-Inghram of Spring Hill, FL.
He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren: Jayson Rumaker, Bella Rumaker, Zoey Rumaker, Hagan Rumaker, Brody Rumaker, Benjamin Laurin, Arianna Laurin, and Brianna Laurin.
On Thursday, March 19, 2026, the family will receive friends for visitation from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with the service beginning at 12:00 p.m. at Brinsfield Funeral Home, 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, MD 20622.
Interment will be held on April 28, 2026, at Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery, 11301 Crain Hwy, Cheltenham, MD 20623.
