LA PLATA, Md. — After a delayed start to the season, Charles County Parks & Recreation announced that the La Plata and Thomas Stone outdoor pools opened to the public Thursday, June 26, following final preparations in coordination with the Charles County Department of Health and Charles County Public Schools.
The reopening comes after weeks of community anticipation, especially as the region faced extreme summer heat.

The update follows a June message from Recreation Chief Ju’Wann Jones, who thanked residents for their patience and understanding while preseason preparations were finalized.
The Donald M. Wade Aquatic Center, Lackey Indoor Pool and North Point Indoor Pool remain open and operating as scheduled. The McDonough Outdoor Pool remains closed. Officials said updates will be provided as soon as possible.
