MECHANICSVILLE, Md. — Residents in St. Mary’s County will have an opportunity to ensure their children’s car seats are properly installed during an upcoming community safety event.

The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office is hosting a Community Car Seat Event on April 9, 2026, at the Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department, located at 28165 Hills Club Road in Mechanicsville.

The event will run from 4 to 7 p.m., providing families with access to trained professionals who can assist with proper car seat installation and answer safety questions.

Organizers note that appointment registration will open 30 days prior to the event, and participants must schedule one appointment per child. Families with multiple children are encouraged to book consecutive time slots.

To help ensure a smooth appointment, attendees are asked to pre-install their car seats to the best of their ability before arriving and bring both the car seat manual and vehicle manual.

The event is part of ongoing efforts to promote child passenger safety across St. Mary’s County by helping caregivers correctly install and use car seats, reducing the risk of injury in the event of a crash.
