WALDORF, Md. — A Brandywine man is facing felony drug distribution charges after deputies say he tried to toss away a container of suspected cocaine while officers confronted him behind a Waldorf motel, according to charging documents.

Calvin Chris Cherry, 43, is charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance other than cannabis and possession with intent to distribute a narcotic after a Nov. 19, 2025, incident at the Super 8 motel on Crain Highway.

The Super 8 manager stated to the officers that Cherry had been kicked out of the motel last month but had returned and that staff wanted him barred from the property. Around 1:20 a.m., officers went to the rear of the building, where Cherry walked out a door, pushed away from officers and threw a small green object into the parking lot before being detained, the officer wrote.

Investigators recovered a green plastic medicine bottle containing a tied plastic bag filled with white powder. The substance field-tested positive for 3.4 grams of cocaine, according to the charging documents. During a search, deputies also reported finding $628 in cash in Cherry’s pants pocket and a glass vial with a yellowish liquid believed to be phencyclidine, or PCP.

The suspected PCP vial, described as emitting a strong chemical odor, weighed about 35.19 grams, which the officer noted is significantly more than would typically be associated with personal use. The liquid will be sent to the Maryland State Police Drug Lab for testing, and the statement says Cherry will be charged at a later time once the results are received.

Cherry was taken to the Charles County Detention Center, where deputies noted he was uncooperative during processing. He was also served with an outstanding warrant in a separate theft case and barred indefinitely from the motel, the officer wrote.

Court records show Cherry was released on his own recognizance following a bail review on Nov. 19. A preliminary hearing is set for Dec. 16 in Charles County District Court.
