SOLOMONS, Md. — My Sister’s Closet, a local organization that launched in early January 2026, has announced its first-ever community event, according to the group’s Facebook post.
The event will take place Saturday, March 14, at the St. Mary’s County Fairgrounds in partnership with the Cinderella Society for “a special day focused on confidence, community and giving back.” The post didn’t include a time for the event but said more details are coming soon.
Donations are being accepted for the event by both organizations. My Sister’s Closet is gathering business attire for women, while the Cinderella Society is focused on prom dresses, hoping to have the most impact possible for women and girls in the community. Both organizations are giving away items free of charge.
My Sister’s Closet was launched in January by Melissa Rodriguez, who hoped to help local women overcome some of the logistical and financial hurdles they face when returning to the workforce or changing jobs. Rodriguez said in a past interview with The BayNet that she was shocked at how quickly the initiative took off and called it “a purely grassroots, community initiative.”
My Sister’s Closet has been working to set up local donation drop-off points at businesses around Southern Maryland and so far has expanded its list to include locations in Leonardtown, Hughesville, California and more.
You can stay up to date about the March 14 event and follow the initiative on its social media.
