LEONARDTOWN, Md. — A festive addition to Leonardtown’s holiday season is turning heads — the Gingerbread Lane walk in downtown features plenty of creativity and gingerbread charm, offering a fun and photo-worthy experience for visitors of all ages.
The walk features 4-foot-tall wooden gingerbread cutout characters that are each uniquely decorated to represent a local business or organization.
And just like another Leonardtown favorite event, the Scarecrow Stroll, you can visit these gingerbread creations and vote on your favorite. Though we have to say, after our visit, it will be incredibly hard to choose.
You’ll also have your work cut out for you if you want to see as many gingerbreads as possible — the “walk” starts on the way into town on Route 4, wraps around the town square in every direction, and extends into side streets. It was so fun to see all the participating businesses, and we highlighted some of our favorites below. But of course, love for wooden gingerbread business representatives is subjective, so we hope you all go out, take pictures and vote.
Dr. Sugarcoat Says, “Try Icing it.”
This hilarious pun is brought to you by the team at MedStar Health. We hear you, Dr. Sugarcoat.

A Color-Coordinated Mystery
We weren’t sure who this little cutie pie belonged to, but we loved its happy smile, rosy cheeks and the cozy winter outfit. This classic gingerbread looks like it should be a real cookie.

Merry Grinchmas!
Need we say more?

Oh, just one more thing…

Guiding You To Financial Success
This gingerbread was another classic who would look as at home on a cookie tray as it did on the gingerbread walk. Except this one comes complete with its very own lighthouse and Christmas wreath to help guide you to smart financial decisions. Puns are in this year!

It’s Cold Out, Remember?
The gingerbread for Boothe’s Heating made us laugh out loud with its friendly reminder that you need heating services. This gingerbread, who is apparently named Wayne, came with tools and props to remind you to update your heating this winter. And who doesn’t love service with a smile?
But Wayne, we think your thermometer was off. There was no way it was 42 degrees.

A Slice Of Character Fun
There were several fun gingerbreads posted outside Slice House, including a very festive-looking Stitch. These were some of the sillier gingerbreads we saw, and they were so worth it. Other people who were out seeing the gingerbreads ran through traffic to get a closer look at these fun cutouts.

A Literary Reference, Yes Please
The library, in classic form, offered up not only a cute gingerbread but a hilarious and clever literary reference to the classic book “Gulliver’s Travels.” We’re not going to spoil it for you — you’ll have to check it out from your local library to find out what happens and understand why all these tiny gingerbreads look so happy.

There were so many fun and interesting gingerbread creations to see in Leonardtown, and while we were able to visit many of them, our only regret is that we didn’t see every last one. Voting runs through Jan. 5, so make sure to visit the square and vote on your favorites before then.
You can learn more online or by visiting the gingerbread walk in person.
