
Norman A. Burch Sr, 87 of Helen, MD passed away on April 9, 2026 surrounded by family.
He was born on November 30, 1938, in Helen, MD to Lewis F. Burch and Mary L. Morgan Burch.
Norman was born and raised in Helen, where he remained a lifelong resident. He was a member of Maryland National Guard as a Reserve of the Army of the United States. Later, he was self-employed as a waterman and dedicated many years to working the family farm, where he raised tobacco with great care and pride.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Mary Rose (Payne) Burch. Their enduring love began with their first date on March 29, 1957. On January 4, 1958, Rosie received her diamond engagement ring, and on June 21, 1958, they were united in marriage at St. Francis Xavierโs Church.
Together, they were blessed with five children: Norman A. Burch Jr., Johnson โJohnnyโ L. Burch (Debbie), Charles โChuckโ M. Burch (Ruth), Rose โReeโ M. Thompson (Jay), and Richard L. Burch (Yvonne). Their family continued to grow and flourish, including 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
He is also survived by his sister, Kay White.
He was preceded in death by his son, Charles โChuckโ Morgan Burch and daughter-in-law Ruth Marie Burch; his parents, Lewis F. Burch and Mary L. Morgan Burch; and his siblings, Louise Quade (Rhodie), Frankie Burch (Edna), Moe Burch (Regina), and Bobby Burch.
The family is deeply grateful to have shared in the blessing of five generations and to have witnessed a love so enduring and profound.
Norman found great joy in spending time with his family. He enjoyed taking his Mopar to car shows, relaxing while taking in the views from his front porch and gathering with friends at cherished local establishments.
Pallbearers will be, Norman Burch Jr, Richard Burch, Alan Thompson, Keith Burch, Chad Burch and Mark Burch. Honorary pallbearers will be his nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.
