INDIAN HEAD, Md. — The Oasis Fresh Foods Market in Indian Head has officially launched Phase 1 of its long-anticipated Community Garden project, transforming an open space into a future hub for local gardening and outdoor gathering.

With help from The Wills Group, Inc. volunteers and The Outdoor Living Company, the garden has already undergone site cleanup, installation of raised bed planters, and the start of a natural amphitheater. The effort reflects a shared vision to provide local access to fresh produce and create a welcoming green space for the community.

The Community Garden will be built in three phases:

Phase 1 (Fall 2025): Site cleanup, raised beds, footbridge, natural amphitheater

Phase 2 (Fall 2026): Construction of a natural labyrinth

Phase 3 (Fall 2027): Addition of winding pathways, trees and bushes

Organizers say the garden will become a space where residents can grow fruits and vegetables while participating in outdoor events and programs. The project is a collaboration between the Town of Indian Head, The Wills Group and Oasis Fresh Foods Market.

Oasis Fresh Foods Market opened on Oct. 25, 2024, as a community-centered grocery store focused on increasing access to fresh, affordable food in the Town of Indian Head. In addition to produce, pantry staples and grab-and-go meals, the market is also home to Papaleo’s Ice Cream, a walk-up soft-serve counter that celebrated its grand opening on May 23, 2025. Oasis continues to host community events, offer healthy food education, and support neighborhood revitalization efforts across southern Charles County.
