
UPDATE: Medical Emergency May Have Caused Fatal Leonardtown Crash, Police Say
LEONARDTOWN, Md. – A fatal head-on collision shut down a major stretch of Point Lookout Road near Leonardtown on Wednesday morning, May 21, 2025, prompting an extended road closure and response from multiple emergency units.
The crash occurred around 7:20 a.m. in the area of St. Margarets Drive and Moll Dyer Road, according to emergency dispatches. First responders arriving at the scene confirmed that at least one individual was trapped inside a vehicle and another was pronounced dead.
EMS requested a MEDEVAC for one patient. Firefighters established a landing zone at the St. Mary’s County Fairgrounds for Maryland State Police Trooper 7.
The trapped occupant was extricated around 8:10 a.m. The patient was subsequently airlifted to Baltimore Shock Trauma Center for treatment.
The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office urged motorists to avoid the area, warning of delays lasting several hours as investigators processed the scene.
Further details, including the identity of the deceased and the cause of the crash, have not yet been released.
