ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Annapolis police are investigating the death of an adult woman who was found unresponsive Wednesday afternoon on a hiking trail near Truxtun Park, where icy conditions and extreme cold may have contributed.

Officers were called to the area near the tennis courts at Truxtun Park at approximately 2:36 p.m. on Jan. 28, 2026, for a report of an unresponsive woman. Emergency responders pronounced the woman dead at the scene.

Police said preliminary information indicates the woman may have slipped on icy conditions along the trail. Investigators believe prolonged exposure to extreme cold temperatures may have contributed to her death. No foul play is suspected.

The woman’s identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin. The investigation remains ongoing.

Authorities urged residents to use caution while walking or hiking during winter weather, particularly in areas where ice may be difficult to see.
