
SCAM ALERT: SPOOFING CALLS
ST. MARY’S COUNTY, Md. – We’re hearing AGAIN that residents are receiving calls from scammers identifying themselves as a Deputy with the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office. These scammers claim the person has a warrant for your arrest and that they can “take care of it” with a payment. THIS IS A SCAM!
Remember:
We will NEVER call and demand payment for ANYTHING.
Law enforcement will NOT ask for cash, gift cards, wire transfers, or cryptocurrency.
How to protect yourself:
Hang up immediately if you receive a suspicious call.
Do NOT share personal information like your Social Security number or banking details.
Verify with us directly—call the Sheriff’s Office at our official number if you have any concerns.
Report scam calls to local law enforcement and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
