Southern Maryland Blue Crabs Introduce Brett Jodie As New Field Manager
Southern Maryland Blue Crabs announced the hiring of Brett Jodie as the ninth team manager in franchise history.

WALDORF, Md. — The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs ushered in a new era on Friday, Dec. 19, announcing the hiring of Brett Jodie as the team’s ninth field manager during a press conference at Regency Furniture Stadium.

Jodie brings more than a decade of experience in professional baseball, including five seasons at the helm of the Lincoln Saltdogs, where he led the team to 230 wins and multiple playoff appearances. He also previously managed in the Atlantic League and holds a league championship title and seven postseason appearances across his career.

The Blue Crabs cited Jodie’s proven success, strong player development skills, and leadership style as ideal qualities to lead the team into the 2026 season. During his introduction, Jodie said he was excited to get started and spoke about how, in his experience, a team quickly becomes like family. He shared that he “cannot wait” to be part of that environment in Southern Maryland, describing the current energy around the organization as “unmatched.”

Leadership Vision Under New GM

The hiring comes under the leadership of new General Manager Christian Heimall, who returned to Southern Maryland this fall after holding leadership roles with the High Point Rockers. There, Heimall helped launch the North Carolina-based club and guided it through two playoff runs and multiple league honors. His focus on hospitality, in-game experience, and community engagement is expected to shape the Blue Crabs’ direction moving forward.

Heimall was joined by Chief Operating Officer and majority owner Byron Sackett, who also spoke about the team’s vision for long-term success and local engagement. A Miami native and veteran operations leader, Sackett helps oversee day-to-day management alongside CEO Charles Garramone and is helping drive a refreshed approach for the 2026 season.

Looking Ahead To 2026

The press conference concluded with a nod to what’s ahead. Heimall told fans to expect “more great things” in 2026, including exciting player announcements and more.
