Southern Maryland Celebrates National School Resource Officer Day

SOUTHERN MARYLAND – In 2022, the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO) declared February 15th “National School Resource Officer Day.” To show their appreciation for School Resource Officers (SROs), all three Sheriff’s Offices in the tri-county area celebrated their hard work and dedication to our communities.

According to NASRO, “SROs are full-time law enforcement officers with sworn law enforcement authority, trained in school-based policing and crisis response and assigned by an employing law enforcement agency to work with schools using community-oriented policing concepts.”

SROs provide more than just protection against disruptive threats. They also offer guidance, emotional support, and other valuable resources.

“From providing guidance and mentorship to lending a listening ear, School Resource Officers play a vital role in creating a safe and nurturing environment for our students to learn and thrive,” stated the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office.

“Thank you for your unwavering commitment, compassion, and dedication to ensuring the well-being of our schools and students. Your impact is immeasurable, and we are incredibly grateful for everything you do.”

  1. The School officers are not protecting our children, because my 16 year old son has come home with several vapes he only buys from kids at school. Have spoke to the school about this several times. My child keeps getting in trouble, but tells them who he gets them from and nothing is done. they have known bathrooms of drug use in the school. when they ask my child was it in the bathroom by the office…yes its always that bathroom a well known drug/vape spot that has been safe for kids to continue to break rules without punishment or correction.
