PORT REPUBLIC, Md. — A new locally owned shop with deep historic roots and a strong focus on giving back is now open at The Shops at Parkers Creek.

The Sweet Little Shop opened Jan. 9 inside a home built in the 1890s, offering visitors a unique shopping experience that blends history with creativity. The business combines three concepts under one roof: a florist, a bakery, and a vendor marketplace, creating a space where customers can browse handmade items while supporting local makers.

The vendor marketplace is owned by Annise Jefferson and Vanessa Duckworth, Just In Bloom florist is owned by Carole Shegogue, and Sweet Poetry Cakery is a pop-up bakery owned by Jefferson.

The concept evolved after the businesses initially operated separately within the shopping complex. Duckworth said the opportunity to move into a larger space sparked a collaborative idea.

“We were in a store upstairs, and there was an opportunity to come downstairs to a bigger shop,” Duckworth told The BayNet. “The florist was also in her own shop, we all thought what a great idea to have a florist, bakery, and vendor marketplace all in one.”

The shop was created with community at its core. Every three months, a nonprofit organization is featured inside the store to collect donations for its cause. The Sweet Little Shop also highlights young entrepreneurs by showcasing one child crafter each month, allowing them to sell their handmade goods and keep 100% of the profits.

“We also strive to give amazing customer service and make everyone feel comfortable and welcomed,” Duckworth said. “Our new space has also allowed us to host a once-a-month book club, creative workshops by our vendors, and a once-a-month Sip & Create (wine & make something fun with friends).”
