GREAT MILLS, Md. — Firefighters in St. Mary’s County responded to two separate kitchen fires on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2025, within less than 30 minutes of each other.

The first incident was reported about 5:55 p.m. at a home in the 45700 block of Chancellors Mill Court in Great Mills. Emergency officials said an oil fire ignited on a stovetop in the split-foyer residence but was out by the time fire crews arrived.

EMS evaluated one occupant for burns, and the patient was transported to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital.

At 6:22 p.m., while units were still clearing that scene, dispatchers received another call for a kitchen fire at a residence in the 45500 block of Baringer Drive in California. The caller reported a deep fryer on fire, but that blaze also was out on arrival. No injuries were reported.
