
SOUTHERN MARYLAND — Communities across Calvert, Charles and St. Mary’s counties are preparing to honor those who have served this Veterans Day with parades, ceremonies and special tributes throughout the weekend. Veterans Day, observed each year on Nov. 11, commemorates the armistice that ended World War I in 1918 and stands as a day of gratitude for the service and sacrifice of America’s military members.
From solemn ceremonies to museum exhibits and family parades, Southern Maryland residents can take part in several observances dedicated to veterans and active-duty personnel.
Veterans Day Events In Calvert County
On Watch Memorial Service on Sunday, Nov. 9, 2025 (2 p.m.), at the end of Dowell Road in Solomons, Md. — Hosted by the Calvert Marine Museum, this annual service honors veterans with a gathering at the “On Watch” statue. Refreshments to follow.
Veterans Day Feature with Friends and Artifacts on Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2025 (10 a.m. to 3 p.m.), at Calvert Marine Museum, 14200 Solomons Island Road, Solomons, Md. — The Calvert Marine Museum hosts a history event and exhibit featuring stories from veterans and community members, along with artifacts from the museum’s military collection. Visitors can write letters of thanks to veterans to be delivered to Charlotte Hall Veterans Home. Free admission for active-duty military and veterans all day.
Veterans Day Events In Charles County
Town of Indian Head Veterans Day Ceremony on Friday, Nov. 7, 2025 (11 a.m.), at Indian Head Village Green Pavilion, 100 Walter Thomas Road, Indian Head, Md. — The Town of Indian Head hosts its annual Veterans Day Ceremony honoring all who served. The event includes recognition of the U.S. Marine Corps’ 250th birthday, a cake-cutting ceremony, guest speakers, veterans’ recognitions and a light lunch. Open to the public.
Salute to Veterans Parade on Sunday, Nov. 9, 2025 (1 p.m. until the last participant crosses the line), in downtown La Plata, Md. — The Town of La Plata’s annual parade honors military service members with floats, vehicles and marching groups traveling along Charles Street and La Grange Avenue. Parade registration is available through Town Hall at 305 Queen Anne Street, La Plata.
Veterans Day Ceremony and Luncheon on Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2025 (11 a.m.), at American Legion Post 82, 6330 N. Crain Highway, La Plata, Md. — Hosted by American Legion Post 82, Sons of the American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary, this annual ceremony pays tribute to local veterans followed by a luncheon open to the public.
Veterans Day Parade Ride on Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2025, at All American Harley-Davidson, 8126 Old Leonardtown Road, Hughesville, Md. — Hosted by HOG Chapter 3887, riders will gather for the annual Veterans Day Parade Ride in honor of military veterans.
Veterans Day Celebration on Friday, Nov. 22, 2025 (11 a.m. to 2 p.m.), at White Plains Corporate Business Park, 10640 Stanhaven Place, Waldorf, Md. — Hosted by the Charles County Commission of Veteran Affairs, this event honors local veterans with a public celebration.
Veterans Day Events In St. Mary’s County
Veterans Appreciation Days on Saturday–Sunday, Nov. 8–9, and Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2025 (10 a.m. to 5 p.m.), at Patuxent River Naval Air Museum, 22156 Three Notch Road, Lexington Park, Md. — The Pax River Naval Air Museum honors service members with a reduced admission rate of $5 for veterans and $7 for family members. Exhibits and special programs will highlight the history and service of America’s armed forces. Children under 4 are free.
“Bells of Peace” Tolling Ceremony on Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2025 (11 a.m.), at St. Clement’s Island Museum in Colton’s Point, Md., and Piney Point Lighthouse Museum in Piney Point, Md. — In remembrance of the World War I armistice, the bells at both historic sites will toll as part of the nationwide “Bells of Peace” initiative. The ceremony honors the 116,516 Americans — including 27 from St. Mary’s County — who died in World War I. The event is coordinated by the St. Mary’s County Museum Division.
Veterans Day Parade on Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2025 (10 a.m.), in Leonardtown, Md. — The annual parade begins at St. Mary’s Ryken High School and proceeds through Town Square, followed by a wreath-laying ceremony. In case of rain, the ceremony moves to Town Hall. Expect road closures from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Veterans Day Observance on Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2025 (2 p.m.), at 29945 Point Lookout Road, Mechanicsville, Md. — Hosted by Veterans of Helen, this ceremonial tribute honors all military service members.
