WALDORF, Md. — A Waldorf man is facing multiple charges after authorities say he participated in a scheme to steal railroad materials from CSX property over multiple days.
Peter Nicholas Calomeris, 48, of Waldorf, has been charged with theft scheme between $100 and $1,500, multiple counts of theft, and trespassing on railroad property, according to court documents.
The charges stem from incidents occurring between March 20 and March 21, 2026, along CSX railroad tracks in Waldorf.
According to charging documents, officers initially responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked near a wooded area behind a business on Trade Zone Court. Investigators found two individuals allegedly loading railroad steel tie plates into a vehicle.
Authorities identified Calomeris as one of the individuals involved. During the investigation, he told officers that he and another man had been removing the steel plates from railroad property over several weeks and selling them for scrap at a local metal recycling facility.
Investigators determined that approximately 125 steel tie plates were taken from CSX property during the incidents. Records show the materials were later recovered or scrapped, with a total value of approximately $1,270.
A second individual identified during the investigation, Johanz Santos, was arrested on an unrelated out-of-state warrant.
Authorities confirmed that neither individual had permission to be on CSX property or to remove the materials.
Court records show Calomeris was issued a summons on March 27, 2026.
A preliminary inquiry hearing is scheduled for May 11, 2026, in Charles County District Court.
