LEXINGTON PARK, Md. — An 18-year-old from Great Mills, who was already wanted on an active arrest warrant for weapons charges, is facing additional firearm charges after deputies reported finding a loaded AR-style pistol hidden under a shed during a raid on a Lexington Park residence.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2025, when officers with the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office executed a search and seizure warrant at a home in the 21900 block of Stoney Brook Court.

According to charging documents, upon entering the home, deputies located the defendant, Kashif Delouis Dyson Jr., and took him into custody on his outstanding warrant. During a subsequent search of the property, deputies said they discovered a black bookbag hidden underneath a shed. Inside the bag, they reported finding a tan and black loaded AR-style pistol along with about 19 9mm rounds of ammunition.

Dyson was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm by a minor, handgun on person and loaded handgun on person. Under Maryland Public Safety Code § 5-133(d), a person under the age of 21 is prohibited from possessing a regulated firearm. The charge of possessing a firearm as a minor carries a maximum penalty of up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Court records show that at a bail review hearing on Aug. 28, 2025, Judge Karen Christy Holt Chesser ordered Dyson to be held at the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center without bond. A trial is scheduled for Sept. 29, 2025.
