PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — Progress at Armory Square Shopping Center in Prince Frederick has happened at a rapid pace since developers broke ground in May 2024. The result is a walkable, outdoor shopping center with sidewalks and outdoor seating.

Locals have been following what businesses are moving in and when they’re opening since the project was announced. Recent additions include Always Ice Cream, Foster’s Grille, Playa Bowls and Heat Lab x Fit Living in Progress, which just celebrated its ribbon-cutting on Feb. 3.

Despite the ice and cold, we took a walk through Armory Square to get a taste of the dining, shopping and experience. We’re excited to visit again as the weather warms up and more businesses move in.

Here’s a glimpse of what you can look forward to from our mini-tour.

Restaurants In Armory Square Shopping Center

So far, these are the dining options at Armory Square:

The area has a good mix of sit-down restaurants and fast-casual dining. We saw plenty of people getting takeout and sitting down to eat at all of the restaurants and were excited to see families enjoying ice cream at Always even in the cold. We weren’t able to stop by Foster’s this time, but we will always throw support behind their strawberry milkshake.

We did get to pop into Playa Bowls and try a smoothie, which was filling and refreshing. The menu is huge and the atmosphere is really fun.

Opening days and hours for each restaurant will vary, so make sure to check before you go or place an order.

Shopping In Armory Square Shopping Center

Here are the stores at Armory Square so far:

There are a few large stores that will definitely be points of interest for shoppers in the area. Both ALDI and Michaels are the only stores in their brand in Calvert County, and both were highly anticipated by the public. ALDI is getting great reviews so far — just don’t forget to bring the quarter for your cart.

Terrapin was incredibly well-stocked and organized and will definitely be a popular stop for many, whether it’s after grabbing a bite to eat or doing your grocery shopping.

Services In Armory Square Shopping Center

So far, the only business offering services in Armory Square is Heat Lab x Fit Living in Progress. We did spot a sign for a Mathnasium — a math learning center for K-12 — coming soon.

We stopped by Heat Lab and saw several people participating in IV therapy and sauna and cold plunge therapy. This is a super relaxing-looking space, and staff was clearly dedicated to their clients.

Armory Square Shopping Plaza is located on N. Solomons Island Road in Prince Frederick. Stop by and check out the many new businesses, and keep an eye on Calvert County’s what’s going where map to stay up to date on the latest additions.
